I guess you could argue that the spread of information makes everyone smarter. Therefore, they are less likely to rely on superstition in making judgments.

People are always going to have little habits to make themselves more secure, especially in stressful situations. Pro athletes will have to do eight straight things in order before a game just to feel comfortable, for example. But it's not like a black cat sends shivers down spines any more.

Not so much. The Media goes for sensational stories instead of focus on how to get rid of superstition. How can the media get rid of superstition you ask here is how take a look at the evidence and suggest that a  The Earth is The Primary Creator and that it has not shown signs of a human type intelligence but still can give people life. Next the issue of superstition about terrorists which have replaced witches for people. The oft repeated mantra prove with historical evidence and evidence from The Holy Books in a court of law how the beliefs contradict and encourage crimes may be of use. It may bore and people may get sarcastic as people repeat. Another point is there are those who already agree that there is bad scripture though not the rest of the package.
