  1. Unfortunately, there are no such thing as "working at home" medical transcribing jobs since the majority of medical records are never allowed offsite of their storage/medical facility.  There's an issue of privacy.  So don't fall for wanting to take any online course on medical transcribing; they are truly not worthwhile unless you are willing to transcribe onsite at the medical facility.

    Good luck!

  2. It's a great job!

Yes you have to study for it. Go to a community college, not an online school.

It usually takes around 1 year to get a certificate or 2 years to get a degree. The cost just depends on the college. Could be around $2,000.

You have to work at a hospital for at least 1 year before anyone will hire you to work at home.... But most companies actually require you work in a hospital for 3-5 years before they will hire you to work at home.

  3. I'm not sure of the market for them but for general career info:  http://www.bls.gov/oco and can search 'medical transcriptionists' or such.

Please steer clear of those private $$ schools and online, for-profit schools such as penn foster, stratford career, us career, university of phoenix, capella and others:  http://www.capellauniversitysucks.us

http://www.ripoffreport.com and can type into search.
