  1. in my view mendis is getting with each match

  2. No, i don't think that Mendis would end up like Narendra Hirwani because till now Mendis's performances has been very good! Mendis bowls a mixture of deliveries, including googlies, off-breaks top-spinners, flippers and leg-breaks, as well as a "flicker" and not to forget his carrom ball delivery, while Narendra's style is legbreak googly! Apart from all this, i personally feel that Mendis is an immensely talented cricketer and he has Murali to guide him too.

  3. Only time will truly tell, but personally I feel the answer is between the two extremes. While Hirwani definitely had skills I don't think he brought anything truly new to bowling.  He was just very good at doing things that had been done before and soon faded into mediocrity.  But Mendis is truly a new kind of bowler who has expanded the game.  I have no doubt that just like Tanvir his magic will fade after a bit.  After all he is going to be playing against the worlds very best and if one player decodes him it is a matter of time before other great batsmen observe this and learn from them.

But then as Muralitharan, Shane Warne and others have shown, a truly great bowler is one who can keep learning new tricks and variations as fast as batsmen are decoding them.

From the evidence we have so far I have no doubt that Mendis will leave more of a mark than Hirwani, but whether he emerges among the ranks of all time greats depends on things that we have yet to see.  We need to see him go through his first failure and see if he comes out stronger and greater from it or if he fails to handle the pressure.  The greatest of batsmen and bowlers have gone through bad patches and their true character was shown in the bad times, not the good ones. Look at people like Kumble, Tendulkar, Sewag, Ganguly, etc. coming out of their recent slumps.

  4. There is nothing wrong with mendis but the batsmen get used to his style of bowling and adjust accordingly. Like Ghambhit indicated the other day that if you watch his hand closely you can decode his strategy and counter attack. In this day and age a bowler can expect a wicket only if he forces a batsman to make a mistake. Wickets are to easy to come your way.

  5. Though N.Hirvani and B.Massie could not extend their initial fourish A.Bedser did.

A.Mendis, accuracy and variety suggest he is capable of a prolonged career.Time alone can prove the length and height..

  6. never.

  7. It will be too early to assess Ajanta Mendis as he has played only 2 test matches.  If he is able to maintain his dominance over batsmen consistently, he will be a potential match winner for Sri Lanka along with Murali.

  8. Hirwani was a conventional leg spinner with an arm ball and a googly however Ajantha has 9 different balls in his armour, so i will rate Ajantha better than Hirwani, but i can visualise that the top order of all teams will learn how to play Mendis, but Mendis will always clean up the tail with his variations, so Ajantha's record will be always good!

    god bless!
