First of all to the genius who thinks Methamphetamine and Methadone are the same thing please educate yourself. Methadone is a LEGAL medication used for opiate addiction and chronic pain. Methamphetamine is an illegal drug that is a type of "home cooked speed" containing everything from Sudafed to Draino. As far as Methadone rotting your teeth...this is a widely accepted myth that is sort of true in that many people notice bad teeth after recovery or they may have reactions tot he methadone that increase tooth decay. let me explain. As active addicts we don't feel pain when on the large amounts of opioids we are on and we tend to not look after our hygiene like we should. So often when we start treatment we notice tooth pain that we did not feel before and we notice the neglect we have put our teeth through for months to years. Also, Methadone in some causes cravings for sweets..this is suspected to be a result of the pleasure centers of the brain being on the same path for sweet foods as opiates however they aren't sure because some people don't crave sweets. Also, in some Methadone causes a dry mouth. Saliva breaks down bacteria and can help prevent a small amount of tooth decay. So this can contribute to tooth decay also. So, is it bad for your teeth? Not nearly as bad as drug abuse is to your health or is you take it for pain then it is better than being in pain. Also, with regular dental care methadone does no more damage to your teeth than anything else. Merely taking methadone alone will not cause tooth decay.
