  1. no, "methyl" is a hydrophobic alkyl functional group named after methane (CH4) - like ethyl, . It has the formula -CH3 and is often abbreviated -Me. Such hydrocarbon groups occur in many organic compounds.  It is strictly a chemical makeup with 3 hydrogens bonded to a Carbon atom (C^-1).

"METH" is methamphetamine - way worse for you.  it tends to thin out our population though, which may have great long term effects on "natural selection".

If i recall correctly the methylprednisolone is a steroid, with the "methyl" being a delivery agent or more specifically a specific delivery path..being hydrophobic it won't become soluble in water.

    Cheers!

  2. This is a steroid hormone often given for inflamation and severe allergies. While it is very effective at relieving symptoms. I would avoid taking this medication unless you are desperate for relief.

Steriods have a degenerative effect on the bones and cartelidge. They supress the immune system for months after you take them and really mess with the hormones that your body naturally makes.

If you do take this medication then take it exactly as directed. Usually you are directed to slowly wean off of it and not stop taking it all at once, as sudden cessation can seriously damage your body.

    Good luck with this.

  3. Ditto the other two answers. it is usually used for inflammation or infection

  4. Nope, not in any way at all-other than linguistically.

It is basically the steroid prednisone (steroids can be muscle-building or muscle-degrading...this one falls into the latter category) with an added methyl (CH3) group.  Different molecular formulas and structures alter the drug's metabolism, effects, and well-pretty much everything about the drug.

Methyl groups are very common in pharmaceuticals...they just are not noticed that often.
