I am going to be in Mexico city for work and my husband and I are taking a few days beforehand to spend in Mexico city, so was wondering if we should bring the baby (1.5 yo) with us

  1. Yes, but the only thing is that you shoudn´t leave him alone because in some cases criminals steal your babies. I´m saying this cause I lived there for 8 years.

  2. Of course it is, I'm from Mexico City and I've lived here for more than 20 years so I know the city quite well. The news you hear like it's the most dangerous city are not true, of course there are dangerous areas and very safe areas like in any other city in the world. You wouldn't take your children to the Bronx at 3 am, as you wouldn't take your children to Tepito at 3 am. There are a lot of activities for children too, as a matter of fact we also DO have children in this part of the world, and NO we do not use sombreros and we do not ride horses and we do not drink tequila from sunrise till dawn like you've seen in the movies. The only thing you would have to be really careful is what they eat, try not eating on the street, and try to keep them as far as you can from spicy food, ask EVERY time if it is spicy and if they say it's "poquito" or a little bit, try it first it might be VERY spicy for you guys. Other than that you'll be OK here and you'll find out a very different Mexico than the one you've seen on movies

  3. NOT.

I'm mexican, I have small children (a boy 5 yo and a girl 3 yo), sometiems I have to go to México city. I know the city time ago, I never take my children there.

If you are on vacation, there are better places for going with children (ex.: Puerto Vallarta, Los Cabos, Cancún); if you are visiting relatives or something, I'm sorry.

  4. NOOO!

I am mexican but not from mexico city, and I havent gone many times, because It is too crowded and kind of dangerous, polluted ,etc... but I would not recommend it.. also they are going to take advantage of you, i mean if they see you speak english and they know you are not mexican, everything could be more expensive, and they may think you have a lot of money.

If you are going just for fun, there are better cities in mexico, cleanner and safe :)

Guadalajara and Monterrey are good options... if you want a beach CanCun or Puerto Vallarta, and Los Cabos... any of those would be nice.

  5. It's ok to take your child, just use the same common sense you would in any big city.

  6. Either leave your child with someone back home or don't go.  If you have to go on business then just you and your hubby should go but please do some research into it first.........there are many things you should know to be safe.
