The way he's pitching this season, i think he can probably pitch a couple more seasons even though they wouldn't be great seasons. He needs 36 more wins to get to 300 which if he gets a few more this season he can possibly get to 300 in 2 years but more likely 3. He can also get to 3,000 strikeouts. He already has 2,750. I think he's a borderline player. Do you think he will be in the hall of fame?

  1. Yes...  He also has the WS rings to go with the stats...

  2. Mussina should be in the hall for sure, no doubt. He is over 100 games over .500 for his career. Will most likely have more that 3000 k's and 300 wins. While never winning more than 20 he has also never had a season where he won less than 11. He has had seasons where he probably should have won 20, one season the Orioles blew 6 leads he had after leaving the game, he finished with 18 that year. He is six time gold glove winner and five time all-star. Also has been in the top five for cy young voting six times. All of this points toward greatness over a prolonged period of time.

  3. How did Mike Mussina ever qualify as a "marginal"  Hall of Famer?

He has a winning life time percentage of  .636 so far

Comparison # 1 is Tom "Terrific" Seaver. A lifetime winning percentage of .603

#2. Nolan Ryan, a lifetime winning percentage of .526

#3. Sandy Kofax, a lifetime winning percentage of .630

To date Mike has 113 more wins than losses.

Seaver finished with 106 more wins than losses.

Ryan finished with only "32" more wins than losses.

Koufax finished with 78 more wins than losses.

Mussina is a "Marginal' Hall of Famer?

    Get real!

  4. I think he could. Almost 300 wins and almost 3000 strikeouts. If he keeps pitching like he is this year he will reach those records and be a hall of famer.

  5. NOO never a 20 game winning season

  6. If his team ever wins another world series

  7. Right now, maybe.  But if he reaches those milestones, definitely.

  8. I think he is right on the bubble at this point.  His won well over 100 more games than he's lost.  His won more games than Bob Gibson.  He needs less than 250 K's to reach 3000 K's.  And as you've said, he needs only 36 more wins to reach 300.  Two more reasonably productive seasons should do it.

  9. I think he HAS to get to the 300 win mark.  He has some great stats, he has a great win loss record but 300 wins will put him to a point where they can not ignore him.  He has no rings and no real awards to boast of, if he had a Cy Young award once or had a couple of rings then he would be an automatic lock already.  No pitcher with a win-loss record of 100+ win differnece has not made the hall so that bodes well for him.

  10. Probably. I'm saying probably because he was great on the Orioles but on the yankees he hasn't had is best stuff so that Mike Mussina Hall Of Famer is put to question.

  11. He's borderline, but if he can last long enough to get 300 wins he'll be in for sure. A Don Sutton-type Hall of Famer: never great but very good over an extended period.

Scal!!!: I don't think Mussina had one of the most dominant primes ever. In his prime, Randy Johnson, Greg Maddux, Roger Clemens, Tom Glavine, John Smoltz were all consistently better. All of them are sure fire HOFers (or in Clemens case, would have been if he stayed clean). That's why I say he's a Don Sutton type - no single year that stands out but his career numbers may make him worthy. Wins in his first season count as much as wins in his final seasons, so it is not about what he does at the end of his career but about his entire career - start, middle and end.

  12. yea

  13. no way

burt blyleven never got in because nobody was afraid to face him i think he had 286 wins

andre dawsons not gonna get in because pitchers werent exactly afraid of him

kids wouldnt be initimadated to face mike mussina so no he is not a hall of famer

by the way has any1 noticed jim thome has over 500 hr's and nobody cares and ppl still think hes useless

  14. He should be a hall of famer. For about a decade, he was consistently one of the top five pitchers in baseball. And for those who say that he should get in if he wins 300 games, why should the last few years of his career decide his fate? He had one of the most dominant primes ever and he was consistently great for years.
