Question:

Is milk good for parrots?

my blue and gold macaw always comes and eats my cereal when im by her and drinks the milk, the milk is whole milk by the way, someone told me they can have skim milk, but im not too sure, and i would also want to know what vegitables are good for them.

  3. Geeze, I don't think so ... but they are smart, exploring birds so it's likely being inquisitive.

    As for exact diet, I would seek out an avian vet.  Of course, I'm here in Canada and have  two local avian vets but that doesn't help you.

    Can you call any local vet for a referral?  Also, if there is a large, established pet store, they would likely know this or know of a local bird club as referral for you.

    What a lucky person you are:  these are gorgeous birds:)

  4. Birds cannot process the lactose in milk.

  5. Milk and other dairy products can cause diarrhea, sometimes severe.  Only give it to them once in a great while.  It will affect some birds differently than others, some will get the runs every time they have dairy products.  Some birds won't get it unless they have a lot.  At any rate, I'd recommend that you limit the intake of your birds dairy.  Please read my profile
