  1. You need to keep them occupied and for most 3 year olds they lose interest after a time.

If you mean what you say when you talk to them they will "mind" you.

  2. When children are two-three years old, they have a strong urge to learn how to do things.  Their curiosity level is high and they like to explore and ask questions.  They insist on doing everything for themselves, so that they will learn how to do it.  This can be frustrating as it will take longer than doing things for them.  They are also less attached to their parents so will run off to see something, with no thought of the possible dangers involved.  This can also be difficult for parents as they need to keep up and keep an eye on an extremely active child.  Be thankful that they want to learn and encourage this behavior.

  3. Minding them?  Shouldn't they be minding you?

I love my three year old, but he's difficult to keep up with.

Minding means doing what they're told, or not doing what they're told not to.  Maybe we're from different countries, you and me.  I'm trying to teach my three year old to mind me--do what he's told.  Sorry for the confusion.
