In certain industries, is it common and acceptable practice for management to mistreat its employees?

  2. No ,  it is most definitely not acceptable. History has shown us time and time again that if you give humans power and authority over other humans , they WILL abuse that power. Don't be just another victim , stand up for yourself , tell your boss's boss , tell your district supervisor (if that applies) call OSHA( assuming you live in the USA ). Boss's sometimes need to be dealt with in the same accord as you would a bully , stand up to the mistreatment , and you will not only help yourself and others who would have come after you , but you will inevitably grow as a person . But if you don't stand up for yourself , then you have no right to complain , and your self -esteem and pride will shrink with your job performance as well.
