  1. Mongoose, Pacific, and Cannondale as well as Schwinn and GT are all owned by Dorel, an investment company. Their bike business falls under the umbrella of Pacific Cycle. Dorel does not own Murray or Huffy.

Cannondale has been building many of their bikes in Asia for several years now, and all but their top frames are made in Vietnam and shipped to the US for painting and assembly of bikes.

My guess is that all Cannondale products will move overseas soon.

  2. Schwinn, Mongoose, and Cannondale are all Pacific brands, all well as GT, Murray, Roadmaster, and others.

Cannondale was only recently acquired by Pacific and they claim that the revered Cannondale line will remain the same, but I don't believe that.  I suspect they will keep hand building the higher priced ones in the USA, but will build the lower priced ones along side all of their other labels in China.  Sad, but probably true.  Their practices explain why you see the "genuine" Schwinn brand in places like Target.  Could Cannondales be sold at Walmart next?

Look at the article below on bicycle brands.  They are now mostly labels, and I'm afraid Cannondale is going to be added to that list.

This is why I counsel most people to buy for price, and not pay too much attention to the label on the bike.  Components are a different (and more important) issue.

    Happy riding.
