Is monogamy just a convenient invention for women's benefit?

perpetuated by divorce laws etc (curiously enough usually made by men even though it then disadvantages them). Women of course need the guarantees of monogamy to help with the upbringing of their fertilised eggs, whereas men have no need for it.

  1. I like monogamy and I'm a guy.  I don't want to share my significant other with another man. What the h**l is wrong with you?  Were you born in 1545 or something?

  2. So are you saying that men just want to s***w around and cannot be faithful?

How does that tie in with the (apparent) current statistics that say that more women cheat then men?

I'm sure there are men out there that won't appreciate being told that it's their nature to cheat, when they have always been faithful.

I'm talking about who cheats more.  If it's not in a man's nature to be faithful, if it's a social constraint invented to please women, then infidelity stats should surely reflect that.

But we are getting onto a different subject here with reasons why women divorce, which may not be relevant to your question.

  3. It benefits society. There are let outs for men, such as professionals.

  4. LOL......monogamy was invented by man for men. As where pretty much all laws of the land.

  5. Monogamy is a righteous social construct which, if adhered to, can prevent the transmission of disease, ensure the paternity of offspring and forge strong emotional bonds between spouses.

Some people feel these benefits are worth the effort to behave contrary to our evolutionary drive to mix the gene pool.    Other's don't.

EDIT@Voldemort:  You are not allowed to agree with me. I hope you have your wand at the ready > "Imperio!"

  6. No-it's bliss for both partners in a loving relationship!

  7. My husband quite strongly prefers that I don't s***w around with other men.  He's mentioned this on several occasions.  It's not even about whose kids are whose, since I'm unlikely to have anymore.

And on a broader scale, I get the impression that men, in general, usually don't want to share any more than most women do.

  8. For some reason I agree with Elf, but I have to add that while monogamy is good for the reasons Elf stated, it doesn't happen. Both men and women change sexual partners these days. Sad, but true. Some people do believe the benefits make the effort worth it, most of the people are just 'part of the group'. The majority isn't monogamous.

The asker's additional details are also sad, but true. It is unfair, especially at a time when men and women in the west are equally polygamous.

EDIT: Elf, this is Voldemort you're dealing with here. You can't put me, The Dark Lord(TM) under the Imperius curse. Fighting that one is a piece of cake.

  9. Maybe it was invented by men to keep women trapped at home trying to be a "good wife".

  10. Right, so you dont really care whos kids you are bringing up then, monogamy is to perpetrate the family unit, and to give men some kind of assurance that the children they are parenting are theirs, in reality no man ever really knows, unless the baby arrives in the wrong shade!

  11. Regardless of who it benefits, monogamy is not an instinctively natural thing for humans.

  12. Sounds like you should take some Evolutionary psychology courses.  It expalins most of this.

  13. Its a way of doing relationships that favours women alright. Sort of undermines the theory that civilization has always been dominated by The Patriarchy...

  14. Its really so simple dummy!  Monogamy is a fallacy propagated by the authors of divorce law in conspiracy with cheating wives to keep cuckolds securely in wedlock and paying for the upkeep of their b******s.

  15. yea otherwise men would just use em n throw em. They need a system, which feminists seem to be pulling apart.

  16. Since when are men happy when another guy f**ks his wife/girlfriend?

  17. Monogamy is a human construct as zoological evidence in conjunction with abundant anthropological evidence has pointed out that monogamy is so rare in the rest of class mammalia (almost unheard of upon close scrutiny), that it's in virtual defiance of order.  Monogamy was largely developed as a concept driven primarily by religious dogma, and post-modern feminism has exploited (conveniently) to the detriment of men's rights to just about anything that was once theirs, children, money. life, etc.
