  1. As safe as anywhere else.

  2. Are the trains in America and the UK safe DURING THE DAY? IS IT SAFE TO TRAVEL BY AIR TO the US and the UK.  Please Please people. STOP ASKING STUPID QUESTIONS ABOUT JAMAICA?  Is wherever u live safe at nights?  Do u think people in montego bag never leave their houses pass 5pm. DO u think that there are no white people in jamaica so that when we see u were automatically are going to know u r a tourist. WHY would someone want to do u harm.  JUST HAVE COMMON SENSE. would u go off with a stranger where u live? No so Donot go off with one in Jamaica.  JUST COMMON SENSE.  No one is jamaica is gonna just come up to u and harm u. NO ONE.  People in jamaica are not crazy weird serial killer and terrorist wierdos, so if where u live is safe at night, montego bay is safe at nights.

  3. If you are Schwarzenegger with armed guards ... maybe.

  4. It depends where in montego bay you are and whether you are staying at a hotel or at a friends/your house

  5. The question you should ask is...........London safe at nite or Manchester or Nottingham.just watch crime watch tonite, and you will see how many crimes committed on the streets of the UK,are further more it could be just outside your door step or on your street....The reasons the all inclusive hotels ask you to stay in the hotel boundaries,is so that they can make more money from the guesses by let spending on activities in the hotels,Montego Bay is very safe for shopping, clubbing are just visiting the towns.Yes you have crime, but so do every where.Am Ja'can and feel safer in Mo'bay than in London..at least we have police and security on the streets in Montego Bay to deter ppl from committing crimes, what do you have in the sh/it hole called the UK.......and even if you have police on the streets of London you still have the Pakistani, them trying to blow ppl up, did you ever see that in Ja.And Romanian gangs who is stealing ppl identity,......so don't you dare ask if my city is safe ( Gal-te-go Bay). from what i can see, from these English tourist that come to Ja every month, everyone is trying to leave the UK,cause their unhappy with the way tings are going...when these English tourist  come on holiday they don't want to go back, they are crying to leave...

  6. It ALL depends on where you are staying.

    1. If you are at a hotel on the 'hip' strip, you are relatively safe. Since it IS night time, its possible to get robbed walking on the darker parts of the strip, but the truth is that such offenses against tourists are not a welcomed concept among locals. Tourism is the way of life, most people who are there every day and night want to protect it.

    2. If you are staying at all inclusive resorts such as sandals, the answer to your safety question is NOT REALLY. MOST of these hotels are located in areas where there is HUGE land space and deliberately prefer to be slightly isolated from mainstream montego bay life. This will mean that when you walk out thier gates, you have a good distance to walk before you get to 'safe' civilization.

    3. If you are not staying on the hip strip OR at an AI resort, then consider it that you may be staying in 'Jah mek ya'. The odds of being fully exposed to typical Jamaican security risks is much higher. Ask hotel staff lots of questions before you make a move.

    4. Villas (with or without staff service) are in the same category as 'non-AI' above. Ask the owner of the villa (or staff or caretaker) for advice.

The key here is to realize that all this is GENERIC (non-specific) information. In all cases you shoudl speak to the hotel staff for advice.

The fact is that ANY vacation spot that has the amount variety (and social complexity) that Jamaica has, will have components of risk that need to be managed to keep your vacation pleasant. Manage it by simply becoming aware of what you need to know based on your choice of activities and applying that knowlege. Eg. if you are swimming at night you need to know about strange currents and nocturnal sea creatures. If you are clubbing you need to know about the safest way to get there and back (drunk or sober). If you are driving the countryside you need to know what to do in case of a road emergency.

  7. Depends where you go. If I were you I'd stay around the hotel and only go to places if you have a trusted guide and a group of you are going together

  8. no, most hotels etc are all inclusive for this reason so just chill at your hotel... its a dive anyway really you dont want to be out of your resort.

  9. Everywhere has some danger and some safety, montego bay is safe, but some parts are not.

  10. depends if chewy is with you or not.

  11. The tourist area is, because it is bristling with police officers and security guards. The very fact that this is the case leads one to suspect that maybe there's a reason for their presence. It's probably not a good idea to wander off the beaten track on your own.

  12. I suppose it depends on where you go. I have not had any problems there...... been going for 15 years or so. I like to walk around at night and hit a club or play some pool and get a drink or two. Never had any issues except when it comes time to leave and go back to the States.
