i had two 10" sony xplods but the box wasnt built to specs so it didnt sound good. i was thinking of changing from 2 10" subs to one 10" sub but am afraid it wont gimme the kick i am looking for. is it better to get maybe three 8" subs that fit the cubic feet of my box or is that a little too much? the box is sealed not ported. i hav a 2001 jeep wrangler tj and want the best sound i can get. i cant just make the box bigger either to fit the 10's cuz i am mounting them under my back seat and dont wanna take that much foam out cuz then the seat will b uncomfortable. and if i do get three 8's will i need another amp? i hav the sony xplod amp too. what should i do?

  1. It is better to have one sub working at 95-100% than two at 60%. Make sure your subs are designed for ported or sealed enclosures. Bridge the amp to mono and fire away.

  2. Get two 12's and dont worry

  3. you will loose 3 decibels with only 1 10" versus 2 10"s, but if you ported the single 10" box it would be louder and have a "boomier" bass versus a sealed box. i would recommend a shallow subwoofer, like a 12" Kicker CVT, which is 400 watts RMS, or a 13.5" JL audio TW5, which is 600 watts RMS and only 2.5 inches deep.

  4. A well set up and powered single 10 can sound better than a poorly set up and powered 2 10's.  But if they are set up correctly, 2will always give you more bass than 1.  It's all about how much air the subs can move so more subs will move more air than less.

  5. one in a much better box will sound much better then 2 in a crappy box 2 small for them id say ditch the xplods and get a good single 12 and put it in a good box and it will sound much better  but if that dont work get a good 10 ive seen 10s beat 18s
