  1. Russia has the largest population of any European country at 142.5 million people. In terms of Moscow; there are 12 million officially, but the number is higher due to people there illegally.

The 142.5 million figure is for all of Russia, although much of Russia, like Turkey, is in Asia.

  2. 10,382,754 as of 2002 census

that would make it rank the sixth most populated city in the world, even toping any big cities in China

Russia is the most populated than any other European nation.

Russia has an asian part too.

but 78% of the people live in the European part

  3. Moscow is very populated, Russia has the largest population in Europe. The population density is very low though. Russia is only slightly larger than other European countries by population, but is much larger than them by territories. It is somewhat akin to Canada or Australia in this aspect, indeed, the Asian territories are actually colonies that the Russians started to populate en masse in the 20th century.

In fact, even if one excludes the sparsely populated Asian territories, the only less densely populated European country would be Iceland, which is a Scandinavian colony. Norway, Sweden, and Finland are comparable to European Russia in population density.

    I. Total population, comparison

    1. The total population is about the same size as the combined population of Italy and France. It's four times larger than the population of Poland. It is somewhat larger than the population of Japan.

    2. It's 3,5 times smaller than the population of the European Union. It is twice as small as the population of the USA; or nine times as small as the population of China. It is somewhat smaller than Pakistan or Nigeria.

    II. Total territory, comparison

    1. Twice as large as China. Four times as large as the EU. Sixty times as large as Italy.

    2. Somewhat smaller than the US and Canada combined.

    III. Population density, comparison.

    1. Thrice as densely populated as Iceland, Canada, or Australia on the overall.

    2. Populated somewhat less densely than Norway. Asian territories are 230 times less densely populated than Germany. Asian territories are 10 times less densely populated than the European part.

    IV. Moscow

Moscow is the largest European city by population. It is somewhat larger than London. It is by far larger than any other European city, if metropolitan areas aren't taken into account. The population density in Moscow is three times smaller than in Paris and twice as large as in London or Rome.

It's the 6th largest city in the world, and the 15th largest metropolitan area.

  4. Yes but its more noticable in the cities-only 5% of the population live in cities.Moscow has for 2 years been voted the world most expensive city.

Despite this there are parts of Moscow where there are poor ppl and prices are pretty reasonable.

The death rates in Russia have not been keeping with birth rates-Russian women are not in much of a hurry to have babies since many cannot afford it.This prompted the Government to offer cash to women who have babies-as the cash is only payable over a number of years-some see it as not enough. In many parts of Russia women outnumber men by as much as 3-1 which is why many choose western partners.Russia lost almost 30 million men in WW2 and more in Afghanistan wars...they didnt really recover yet from this in terms of growth in pop.
