Is moss an indicator of water quality?

for a biology project.

we have to do a paper on the water quality of a nearby pond, one of the most blatant observations was that there was a lot of moss. What does this indicate in regard to water quality?

Algae, not moss, is a good indicator of water quality.  A close friend took a survival training course for Air Force pilots.  In the class, he was taught that if he is looking for water to drink, he should never choose water that is sparkling clear as it is an indication that the water may contain poisonous compounds.  The water that has algae and living insects is not toxic.
