  1. There are some limits on youTube 100mb? or 10 min.?.. BUT If you use their uploader they would allow 1GB & 10min videos, specially HiDef.

You may have to downgrade your video to wmv 320 x 240 res. to reduce the file size, though mp4 may be accepted. For the various mmedia container formats, detailed history & explanation can be surfed thru wiki.

  2. YouTube not only accepts MPEG-4, they actually "recommend" it (with certain parameters)!

Here's a quote from the page linked below in the Sources section...

"We specifically recommend the MPEG4 (Divx, Xvid) format at 640x480 resolution with MP3 audio. Resizing your video to these specifications before uploading will help your clips look better on YouTube."

So, what you did should work!

    OK, now the techie stuff...

MPG is the 3-character file extension for MPEG (which stands for Motion Pictures Experts Group, the organization that created and standardized it).

So, yes, MPEG-4 is a form of MPG, but MPEG-4 typically has a 3-character file extension of MP4.

    There are also MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MP3 (MPEG-1 layer 3; an audio format), and MPEG-7.

MPG without a number is typically MPEG-1.

  3. Here is a good link explaining the differnces between VCD, XVCD, SVCD, XSVCD and DVD formats:

    http://www.videohelp.com/

MP3 is an audio compression format. MP4 is video, similar to MP1 (ued for VCD, XVCD) and MP2 (used for SVCD, XSVCD, DVD).
