Question:

Is mt. Hood in Oregon an active volcano?

I read that it erupted in the late 1700s and I never heard that it was a volcano before. I was there a few days ago and I didn't hear anything about it being a volcano.

  1. Mount Hood, Oregon's highest summit at 11240 feet, is a dormant volcano covered with 11 active glaciers.  Although Mount Hood is currently dormant, it will erupt. again.

  2. Mt. Hood is a dormant volcano, but it is not active.

    Its in the central part of the Cascades volcanic belt trending from Mt. Meager in British Columbia to Mt. Shasta in California.  None of the 13 volcanoes in that belt are currently active, but that could change any time without warning.

    Garibaldi, Baker, Rainier, St. Helens, Jefferson, and Lassen are the names of some of the other Cascade volcanic centers.
