  1. yes

  2. In my opinion, music is a skill because:

    1. You don't get good right away.

    2. You get better with practice.

    3. You have to keep practicing or else you'd get rusty or you'd forget.

    4. You can teach music to others.  It is acquired.

  3. Music is not a life skill.  Many people get by with bad voices, not being able to read music, or ever learning to play an instrument.  Art in general is not a life skill.  If it was, then millions of people would be in big trouble!  The right side of the brain controls our non verbal, more spatial way of thinking.  Most people haven't trained there brains to work in this way, and are bad at art.  They are often very smart people, they just can't draw or express themselves with art.  The point is that artistic ability isn't considered nearly as academic as say, maybe math or science.

  4. Do you agree unemployment is a harmful problem nowadays?  So in order to survive, music is a life skill. It is a pity but is a fact! It doesn't mean that music is not lovely.

  5. NO...life skills are skills needed to succeed in life.  You do not need music to be able to perform daily life functions.  Life skills are counting money, shopping properly for yourself, hygiene issues and some cooking.  Unfortunately we do not need music to survive.

  6. Life Skills students have every right to enhance their lives in the same way that other students do. In our society, music is one of the most pleasurable past times for many people.

Everyone has a need for self actualization and to deny these opportunities for people with mental retardation puts us back in the ice age.

There are three reasons that music is a life skill.

    1. It is an opportunity for TMR and EMR children to participate with people with regular intelligence. If they know how to dance or can sing some songs, it enhances their participation in their communities.

    2. It is an opportunity for these students to express themselves when they can't be expressive in any other way. Many life skills people really enjoy dancing and to teach them to dance appropriately affords them the opportunity to do this.

    3. It is an opportunity to learn a skill. Life skills kids absolutely love to master a new skill and music gives them this opportunity. They may not be able to read, write or do math, but clanging a symbol at just the right time makes them feel competent and that they have achieved something.
