Is my 2007 rca sdtv able to recieve high definition with a converter box?

We just got more tv channels. And they gave us a converter box for High Definition televisions. Is my tv able to do this?

im  pretty sure its not if its an sdtv then it just aint possible and

i think that the converter box either changes it to digital or takes standard and make it look hd...

No...a converter box does not receive high definition programming...you're a little confused wit the whole "DIGITAL TRANSITION" In order to get ANY high definition material, you MUST have an HDTV. The converter boxes just receive digital information and convert it to analog so that people with older tvs can still watch tv.

Key fact to remember:

All digital TV signals including "HD" ones can be cheaply converted to the old SD analog type. Any answer you get that conflicts with this basic fact is almost certain to be wrong.

The converter box converts digital (including "HD") programing to analog SD.

What that means is you can watch "high definition"programing, but the extra picture detail in the HD signal is thrown away by the converter. The converter sends a SD signal to your TV. The TV could be 50 years old and still be usable.

The best way to hook up your TV to the cable system depends on what model TV you have and what outputs the converter has.

The term "SDTV" has been used to describe both analog only sets and sets with digital tuners that only display SD resolution so it really doesn't tell me much about your TV.

Look in your TV's owners manual and see if it has any of the following:

"QAM" tuner - If it has this you may to able to connect your TV directly to your digital cable outlet without the converter.

HDMI connector - if your cable box and TV have this connector it probably the best way to connect the two.

S-video   - usually the best choice for analog only TVs

composite inputs - step up from RF

RF - lowest quality
