Is my 7 year old cat fat?

Question

she weighs 15 pounds.

everyone that i know that has cats has skinny cats, or at least they are skinny to me because holding my cat takes some strength haha.

just wondering because i heard overweight cats can have health problems.

Cats should typically weigh between 8-12 lbs. (US). Male cats may weigh an additional 2-4 lbs. without being considered at risk. Large breeds such as the Maine Coon may weigh up to 18 lbs and small breeds such as the Singapura may weigh as little as 5.

The best way to tell if your cat is overweight is by checking the cat. Move your hands along the sides of the body and gently try to feel the ribs. If the cat is within range of its ideal weight, you should be able to easily count the ribs. The ribs should be covered with a layer of fat, but not to an extent that would make it difficult to feel them.

depends on what breed she is, because maine coons are one breed that is known to get very large. it also depends on her activity level, if shes a lazy cat and noticeably overweight or she has trouble breathing or walking, she is most likely too heavy for her body. if you are worried about her, put her on a diet, you can buy special food for overweight cats. if she seems healthy and she is fairly active, im sure shes probably fine.
