Is my B1/B2 Visa easy to be transfered to F1?

Hello. I am from Asia. I am married and have 2 sons. I hold a B1/B2 visa. I traveled to the US twice since 2003. I never wanted to live there illegally so I always had to return to my country. Now I would like to study in the US. Is it easy for me to get F1 visa do you think? Should my wife and sons apply for H2 visas the same time I apply for visa, or should they apply when I arrive in the US? Please tell me from your experiences.

Thank you very much if you drop some lines.

  1. Every visa case is judged on its own merits.  If you want to apply for a student visa, you first have to be accepted by a US college and receive an I-20 form.  With that, you can apply.  You will have to convince the consular officer that you can pay for your studies without working in the US, that you are a serious student, and that you intend to return home after your studies are over.

If you expect to take your wife and children with you, they will have to have I-20 forms as well, showing that the school believes you can support them even while studying full time.

Do not try to enter the US with your tourist visa, then change.  We hate it when people do that, and it is visa fraud that might bar you permanently from the US.
