Is my Catholic boss going to get catapulted into the burning lake of fire for getting a vasectomy?

This is a pretty good summary of what he has preached to me at work...

I've been listening to this for a couple of years and he recently told me that he had a vasectomy almost ten years ago.

I know for a fact that he is a horny b*****d and is not practicing abstinence with his wife. All the guy ever talks about is s*x.

For the record I'm elated that he got a vasectomy.

Would someone please explain to me why he would risk his eternal soul and not allow his little wigglies to make more Catholics?

  1. So many Catholics believe that the teachings of the Church and God are up for personal scrutiny, and a matter of opinion. When in fact, they are not. Does it mean he'll go to h**l...only God knows that answer to that. It certainly means he puts his soul in danger by disregarding God's Church on this.

Many Catholics are ill-prepared to be true Catholics, some were raised in homes that didn't live the Catholic faith or even understand it. I have "Catholic" friends who use birth control, skip mass on Sunday regularly, are pro-choice, and never go to confession...and yet they receive the Eucharist and call themselves Catholic. They are cultural Catholics, those baptized into the faith but have no idea what it is about. It's sad. Hopefully your boss will one day stop putting himself first and allow God to lead him.

ADDED: Doug, yes if he made a good confession he'd be okay, emphasis on "good." A Catholic cannot just go to confession and then go on doing as he/she pleases. According to the asker, this man is not sorry he got a vasectomy. He would have to understand the grave sin it is and be contrite in order to make a good confession about it. I say this for the benefit of the non-Catholics who believe that Catholics can just go to confession and then sin some more. That is not the practice or the point.

  2. Leviticus 18:6

" 'No one is to approach any close relative to have sexual relations. I am the LORD.

  3. If he made a good confession, he has nothing to worry about.

  4. It's another example of catholic tradition trumping scripture. There is no scriptural basis for the catholic prohibition of birth control. If that's his only problem then he should be fine.

  5. ha! So he sinned. A coupla hail Mary's and an Our father or two, a quick swing around the rosary beads and he's all good with god. If nothing else, the Catholic Faith is spectacular when it comes to seeking God's forgiveness. Bless 'em for their pragmatic approach. I hope they are right and all those fundies and their "burn in h**l~ scare me ~ spare me" nonsense got it wrong! I quite like the Pope too. I mean who else gets to wear their ruby red slippers to work!

  6. I don't know.  Is he doing his secretary?

  7. There are a lot of "cafeteria" catholics out there (those who pick and choose which bits of catholicism they will accept). They, like many atheists, think that they have a better grasp of morality than God does.
