Question:

Is my DVD burner defective?

When I'm burning something whether it be directly from the tv or from a video cassette sometimes I get an error message saying that I cannot record the program. It used to stop recording altogether but not it'll pop up with that error message and pause it for a few seconds then continue to record. I just burnt a baseball game and it must have popped up the error message and paused then started recording again several dozen times. It only pauses for a few seconds but the total time deleted because of it was almost 4 minutes.

So my question is - is the DVD burner defective or is this just common?

  1. It sounds like it is defective

  2. It sounds like that DVD burner is gonzo. However, if it is only acting up on certain brands or types of discs (DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD+RW, whatever) try using a different disc and see what happens. My Sony DVD recorder for some reason doesn't like DVD-RW disc (even though Sony says that they will work). But yet, it works fine with the other three formats.
