Question:

Is my DVD player Region-Free?

As a mad anime fan, I've brought several anime dvds from overseas through Ebay. I've noticed most of them have NTSC, 1-4 or 1 in a circular world symbol on the back of the dvd cover so I assume that they're Region 1?

One dvd has what I think it is, Region 1 at the back and it works perfectly fine on the dvd player. I'm planning on buying Loveless and it's also Region 1, so it will work, right?

  1. If all those discs are actually Region 1, and they all play fine on your player, then you should be able to play any Region 1 disc.

1 in a circular world symbol is supposed to indicate that the disc is coded for region 1 only, but you can't always trust what's printed on the box (especially for non-mainstream DVDs from small companies).

1-4 inside the world symbol means that the disc is coded for regions 1, 2, 3 and 4.

If you have a DVD drive in your computer, there are various utilities that will tell you what regions your discs are actually coded for. DVD Decrypter is one I can think of off the top of my head, but I'm sure there are others.

  2. If any don't work try to get  a region hack from the net.

    Just google 'DVD region hack'.

You should be able to find a code for your machine you can input with your remote and the machine to region '0' which will play all regions.
