I Have a Jupiter Student flute that i bought about 5 months ago.

I havent played it for about a month now..and i just took it out today to play.

I noticed while i was playing, i had a hard time playing almost everything but E naturals and F naturals..

The other notes sound very airy and squeaky..they seem like they wont come out.

Is it a leak?

I dont think its my embrouchure..I tried real hard to focus my lips..

Help please

  1. There could be a key stuck, try testing all the keys by gently pressing them, and make sure they don't stick at all.

Other than that i'm not sure, hope you find the answer!

  2. it needs a minor pad adjustment!!!

  3. It sounds like a leak.

Flip it over and press down each key.  Look at the pad to make sure it's sealing against the hole. If it's not, then you have a leak.

Or, go in a dark room, close all the keys, and shine a light down the end.  If you have a leak, you'll see it from under the keys that are leaking.

  4. lol that is kind of funny.

It might be some sort of leak, yes. It seems like since the sound is different its nothing else...inspect it or get a new one if you can

  5. Hi VP:    Letting a flute sit unplayed for  awhile can result in leaks... and that is what I suspect is causing your problems.   Sometimes humidity or excessive dryness can cause and swelling or shrinking of the pads.  This in turn will cause the pads to seat improperly as they have shifted.   You cannot repair it yourself... and there could also be other problems like a spring broken.... it is really hard to say sight unseen,  but I advise you get it in to a flute repair tech.   It sould not be anything very serious is you have only had it a few months.   Thanks for reading.
