I just got my GCSE result today and I am very disappointing with myself.

I got :

Math: A

Chemistry: B

Physics: B

ICT: B

English: D

History: E

Business: E

I am an international student and i've only been in UK nearly 2 years. I did full GCSE course in 1 year (2007-2008), not 2 years. I applied to a sixth form College, so they required 5 GCSEs A-C inc English and math. I ony got D for English. My teacher said that I did OK because English is my second language. I'm worrying that the college could kick me out because I did not meet the requirement.

Can I have any chances to get in a Sixth form College with these grades???

  1. You have not done that badly.. seriously ! You got an A in maths, and Bs in the two hardest subjects (chemistry and physics).. so don't put yourself down ! Considering english is probably not your mother-tongue, you have done extremely well ! I am sure that if you go to your nearest 6th form college and have a talk with them about your results they will be more than happy to let you in.. One of my friends got similar results to you.. she got 4 passing grades when she needed 5 to get into 6th form, and she failed maths and science.. but she was still allowed in because she added up her point score and got the correct score.. i'm pretty sure you can get into 6th form so my advice to you is to just go to your nearest one and talk to them about it :) Good luck x

  2. It depends on the sixth form college.

Some may let you do A levels if you have at least 4 GCSEs (grade A* to C), and you have to have english at grade D at least.

They may let you do 3 A levels but you might have to re-take english GCSE alongside it.

You did well considering english is your second language, but I would recommend re-taking it to get the C as it  is vital for most jobs.

  3. retake English alongside A levels or appeal you've been living here for a year..:p...im in the same position except i got a D in Maths..answer my question please.

  4. That sounds ok, you may get into a sixth form but maybe try and do some kind of mathematics or technical degree, statistics etc which is equiv to AS level...try and see your local Connexions advisor and explain to them what you're good at and what you can see yourself doing. I know very, very gifted people who have come from abroad and their English has held them down a lot. They've had to do different diplomas and find different ways into uni. You may be advised to get some English lessons as well, as in Literature and writing not necessarily spoken...maybe you can take these at college then do something else equivalent to AS/A levels? Just seek advice from there or from any older family or friends. Hope I helped!
