Is my Hammy dying?

My hammy is almost a year since we know she was born sometime in July but not the exact date. I barely ever see her anymore b/c she goes to bed at like 5 am and wakes up at 9 pm. She barely runs on her wheel and won't eat some of the fruits she used to love. AND when i put her in her ball all she does is pee, poo and clean herself. What's going on?!?

  1. I don't think your "hammy" is dying. One of my rats does the exsact same thing in her ball, too. She is the rat that likes to be hidden. Hamsters are night birds, so their most active time is at night.

  2. Most hamsters live longer than a year, so that shouldn't be the cause. The bedtimes aren't unusual for a hamster. She may simply be bored. Using items from around the house, you can give her all kinds of enrichments to her enviornment that may help your pet become more lively. Just search for "homemade hamster toys" or something similar.

  3. i doubt shes going to die, maybe shes just sick and doesnt feel like doing anything else.

  4. my hamster did exactly the same no shes not dying i guess shes just getting a bit older ..theres nothing to worry about :)

  5. I don't think she is dying, but she might be sick so you might want to take her to the vet.  :  )

  6. Don't worry, all these symptoms don't mean that your hamster is dying, it only means that she is growing old. Just like when we grow old, we are unable to do things we did when we were young, hamsters also cannot play actively like they used to when they grow old. The average life span of hamsters is 1-2 years, so she is already pretty old now. Just take good care of her and give her nutritious food. As long as she is healthy otherwise, there is nothing to worry about.

  7. my hamster does the same thing but she runs on her wheel all the time maybe your hamster  is changing her diet and  an when you put her in her ball she probably just doesn't want to be in there

  8. ok my hamster had the EXACT same problem but i didnt take it to the vet ( BAD IDEA! ) Nibbles had puss in her eyes and the same problem , sleeping alot , BUT listen VERY CARFULY!!!! or i will hurt you ,if yours starts not breathing right ,take her to the vet cuz one night  i left for a party and when i came back : ( gone . so better to be safe then sorry : (

  9. Sounds like a normal hamster to me, they are naturally nocturnal so her sleeping pattern sounds completely normal. As for her wheel and veggies, hamsters just like people change their living habits as they get older, she may just got sick of her wheel and may of gone off some of her foods. When I was younger I used to hate wine and gip over the stuff, now I love it... age brings change in all of us, don't worry I'd say she still has a few years left in her yet! x

  10. Thelife span of a hamster is aboout 2 years and if your hammy is acting different than  usual it may very well be sick, or dying. On another note, all my hamster evr did was p**p and pee, so that is completely normal. The only time it would runn was at night. They are nocturnal creatures and they have oppostite schedules than us humans. When my hamster passed, i had owwned it for a year and a half and one day just found it dead, with no symptoms. It was fine the night before. So with that said, I think your hamster is just fine and nothing is wrong!
