Is my Japanese correct?

OK. Am I right in saying that:

魚が川で泳ぐ。

means that "fish (in general) swim in rivers."

but:

魚は川で泳ぐ。

means that a certain fish swims the rivers/the river.

is that right

means "A (kind of) fish swims in the river."

"魚は川で泳ぐ。"

means "The creatures named fish swim in rivers( and others don't)."

yes, it looks correct to me, although im a bit out of practice with my kanji, so the suiei might be conjugated wrong.

a little trick i used in school, is the japanese language sentence structure is always set up Time, Topic, Place, Object, Verb. (TTPOV)

for instance, if you wanted to say at 3 o lock, dave went to the bathroom, you would say: san ji ni dave san wa otearai ni ikimashita.
