  1. If he has been coming to you then he has never let you pet him, it seems you have a happy bird when you don't try handling him and he likes coming close to you when he is inside of his cage, he feels safe with the wire between you. He is not tamed don't let him fool you. Love birds will let you get close to them to coax you into poking your finger through the cage hole only to bite your finger. This is funny to the bird because we humans are so stupid in their eyes, but don't let them fool you. Your lovebird is not tamed he is just playful and is trying to be your friend through the cage not wanting to be handled. Just enjoy the bird being silly and admire his personality {:O)

  2. He is probably just finishing getting used to you.  If you want to pet him, don't move your hand fast because that will scare him.  Move it slowly torwards him and he will hopefully let you pet him.  If not just surprise him with a scratch on his head.

    Good Luck!

  3. Birds fluff their feathers up when they get cold, and if he's fluffing up in hot weather, it would mean he's sick (like how people feel cold when they have fever), so since he's not doing that, I think he's fine.

One thing about birds - this is just a rumor I've heard, not sure if it's true:

Dogs and cats like being petted, because your hand feels like a tongue l*****g them, and dogs and cats l**k each other to show affection.

For birds, they can't l**k each other.  Instead, they preen.  Petting them would probably make them feel a little threatened, like a predator is l*****g it's prey.

Again, that is just a rumor and I'm not sure if it's true.

I have parakeets and lovebirds, but I don't pet them; they will just be perched in my hand or something.  I let them approach me, instead of me approaching them, that way they don't feel threatened by this giant, blumbering mammal heading right for them lol .

I guess you should just let him wander around a small room, with you sitting in it with him, and he'll probably go towards you sooner or later.  Let him climb or nibble and experiment so that he will find out for himself that you are no harm.
