Question:

Is my Old English Bulldog overweight? ?

I have and Old English Bulldog bamed Bentley at 6 months of age. He weighs 60 pounds already. I feed him 2 cups of Nutro Max Puppy Kibble with a mix of some wet food twice a day. So that's a total of 4 cups a day. Please let me know if I am feeding him too much because I am worried that he's already overweight considering he weighs 60 pounds at 6 months. I do take him on frequent walks and runs about 3 times a week.

Attached are some pictures

  1. He looks prefectly health, English Bulldogs' adult weight is btw 50-60lb.

  2. Romeo D, I like the personality of a old english bulldog. They are so sweet.

  3. looks healthy and really cute.

  4. ~ He doesn't look overweight, but he is still young.  You don't want him to get much bigger than that.  You need to make sure to lower the amount of food he eats as he gets older since puppy needs more than adults.  I would also consider feeding a higher quality food than Nutro which is a very low quality c**p food.

Feed higher quality and feed per cups required that is listed on the back of the bag.  I would also not feed any wet food as it is just overdoing it and completely unhealthy.

You will see a big difference with a high quality food like Orijen, Innova, Merricks, EVO, Wellness ect and no wet food unless it is made by these makers and only 1-3 times a week, not every day.

  5. he looks the same size as my bulldog. I feed her almost that much everyday minus the wet food.

  6. no bulldog r big but if it get to big go to a petsmart

  7. He looks like he's a healthy weight, and you can feel his ribs but not see them so that's ideal. Also, from the top view, he still have an inward curve on his sides, he isn't all straight or round like an obese dog would be. If you are concerned you should just give a vet a call (it's free) and they would be able to tell you a healthy weight range. They can tell you exactly what's what for your dog's breed.

Feed your dog the right things too - this includes a food that has a first listed ingredient as meat (like chicken, beef, etc...) The first ingredient listed is what the food contains most of, and if it's corn, like Purina, for instance, that is not an adaquate food. Dogs are carnivores! Not corn-ivores! Haha...

Bulldogs are a little extra squishy anyway aren't they? Looser skin than a lab for instance, maybe that explains why you have to push a bit to feel the ribs.

  8. looks fine
