Question:

Is my Parakeet going to be okay?

I have 3 parakeets. The dad, and his two children. The mother flew away, and we never found her. The babies seem to be very aggressive with their father and i don't understand why. Before the mother flew away we had to separate her from her mate and the babies because she was very aggressive and made her mate bleed. I think the babies are aggressive because the mom was aggressive, but i could be wrong. The other day i checked up on the birds and i saw the daddy bird bleeding from his wing. It wasn't just a little bit of blood it was a lot, and his wing was shaking. We removed him from the other birds so he could heal better. It's been about a week since he got attacked and his wing still shakes. I was wondering if anyone knows why his babies attacked him? And if he's going to be okay? Thank you in advance for your thoughts!!

  1. i think you should seperate them and make them watch elmo or some thing that is for little kids

  2. The babies probably got the attitude from the mom.  He will probably be OK but just in case take him to the vet.  Good luck and I hope your parakeet is OK!

  3. I think only a vet who looked at your bird could safely answer this question.  I do think that it's possible that aggressiveness can be inherited, but I don't know if this is the reason for your situation.

  4. Keep the male away from the babies.

The bites could have damaged a nerve in the male's wing.

  5. Get you "dad" parakeet to the vet asap. Have they had their wings clipped as sometimes when they are clipped too short the blood feathers are very vulnerable and can easily break which causes alot of blood loss!

  6. You need to take your "father" parakeet to the VET !!!

Parakeets do not have much blood and if they loose even a few drops it is a lot of blood to them. Also make sure you kkep them seperate and keep him warm. Put a warming light close to his cage (but don't burn him!)

You better read up also on some informative website about breeding parakeets. There are tons of websites out there.

BUT PLEASE take that poor bird to a Vet!!!!!

  7. for gods sake take the bird to a vet!!!!!

As for the attitude its natural, look at most animal species, especially birds, the mothers are loved because they raise the childre, if the father didnt contribute then its going to become rougher and rougher on him, you need to look at permenantly seperating them or giving the father away to a better home!
