Is my Sharp Aquos capable of 1080p through VGA?

I have a 52'' LC-42D64U Sharp Aquos LCD HDTV and I was wondering if it was capable of displaying 1080p through VGA. I' am planning to hook up my Xbox 360 to it so I can get 1080p up-scaling (if my TV is capable of 1080p through VGA that is) for when I watch DVDs. Does anyone KNOW if I can do it?

  1. I think you mean the LC-52D64U. The number after the LC is the size of the TV.

In your manual there's a section called "PC input supported" and this refers specifically to the VGA input.

VGA is capable of 1080p, as is component, but not all HDTV manufacturers bother to spec their component and VGA inputs for 1080p as they know when the ICT starts appearing on 1080p content, requiring HDCP enabled HDMI inputs, there's little point to them.

  2. Well

First does the xbox 360 supports 1080p over VGA? If not, the question is mute.

Your TV definitely supports 1080p over HDMi and component, but the on-line specs are not clear about supporting 1080p over VGA. Well, give it a try. It is the easiest way to find out.

  3. First of all, is your TV 1080p? If so, then you might be able to. A lot of times the brands vary in their acceptance of different inputs. But yes, typically a VGA will be sufficient. You may have to play with some of the settings on your TV in order to get an optimum picture though. Remember though, upscaling is just the converter making educated guesses and filling in to make it look 1080p. It's not true like a blu-ray player's 1080. That's unless it's a native 1080 game/DVD.
