I recently bought two Alpine Type R's 12" with a ported box, the amp i'll be using is a Zapco, supposably the "mercedes of all amps" and its a 350watt, which is underrated and is actually like 600-700 or something, not sure. Will that be good enough for the subs, i also have two other 350's that run the front and side speakers.

  1. The dumbass who told you that was the Mercedes of all amps is dead wrong.

I've been installing car audio for almost 3 years and never heard the brand Zapco before.

JL Audio 1000/1 is the Mercedes of all amps.

  2. it depends on the impedance of the subs 2 or 4ohms

plus someone lied to you- its not the Mercedes of all amps, more like the Hyundai

you need to stick with CEA-compliant companies which means that the amp has been tested and produces or exceeds the advertised RMS wattage with minimum distortion, here are the CEA-compliant brands

    Alpine

    Bazooka

    Blaupunkt

    Clarion

    Eclipse

    Infinity

    JBL

    JL Audio

    JVC

    Kenwood

    Kicker

    MTX

    Pioneer

    Polk Audio

    Rockford Fosgate

    Sony

  3. I didn't even know that the brand Zapco existed it sounds like an crappy off brand. I stick with alpine when it comes to amps man. Who ever told you that is retarded

  4. Tough to say.  All you hear about Zapco amps is how supposedly great SQ they are.  Unfortunately with subs it's the one area where you would like to have some power behind it.  Are Zapcos underrated?  Who knows.  What we can tell is the amp boasts 350W RMS and you're going to use it to power 2 subs that have a 500W RMS rating each.  Hope it works out...  If not, there are good amps you can buy at around $300 that'll do 1000W RMS and power them nicely.
