Is my amplifier fried?

I was driving and my head unit started smoking like crazy. I unhooked the car battery too it out and reconnected the power. After that happened my amplifier is not getting any power. There is power to the amplifier but the amp is not turning on. Is it possible that the head unit fried my amplifier? If it is does it need to be thrown away or could it be fixed because i really dont have 500 bucks for a new one

  1. If your talking about an aftermarket amp...

Your head unit doesn't or shouldn't power the Amp. Your amp should be directly connected to the battery. Check the inline fuse for the amp.

  2. I think it is more likely your head units problem, possibly no power at the remote wire. To test, take a piece of wire and jump it from the B+ on the amp to the REM wire, if it turns on, you are not getting power from the headunit on the remote wire lead.

  3. no dude sounds like the HU is fried, did u check the fuse on the amp,
