Is my answer phone faulty

Have just bought an answer phone and set it up but there is no dial tone and I have tried ringing it from my mobile but it does'nt ring either,the answer phone part is OK I have recorded a message and the day and time is correct but I can't make or receive calls

If your 'phone works before you connected the answering machine, then the answering machine is faulty.

On the other hand does the answering machine have a 'silent' mode where it doesn't ring or have an 'answer off' mode where it doesn't 'pick up' the call. Check the instruction manual for this.

If not, then take back to the shop.

Then the connection to the phone socket is obviously where the fault lies.

Try a process of elimination.

Does the new device work in someone elses house on their socket? If it does your socket is faulty. If it doesn't your device is faulty.
