He's not really swimming a lot and he's kinda dull looking. I could be because he's ready to spawn, maybe. Here's a pic of some white stuff on his face...

If he is what type of disease is it??? Can I medicate it even if I'm not sure if he's sick???

  1. it looks like he is in a bowl

how do you fit the required filter and heater in the bowl

  2. If he has white spots on his face that aren't normally there he is sick. Maybe he has columnaris.  I don't know, do some more research. Don't treat it unless your sure of what it is.

  3. did any other beta fish bite it cuz it looks hurt  and i think its cinda sick

  4. This looks nothing like a fungal infection-- this would be very three dimensional and have obvious filaments.  I agree with the columnaris diagnosis.  Get it into a filtrered, heated tank, remove any activated carbon, and begin treating with Triple Sulfa, Maracyn TC, Maracyn 2, Furan 2, acriflavine based medications, or Kanaplex immediately.  As long as it's in an unfiltered, cold bowl, it doesn't stand much chance of recovery.

  5. wa kind of tank is he in is there a filter heater

  6. i see your question i just asked the same one...did you find out what is happening to your fish ? i adore my fish, i would really like to help him. =) jude

  7. Ouch! your betta has a fungal infection!

This is probably caused by poor water and living conditions.

Bettas need at least 2.5 gallons with a filter (keeps up their immune system so they don't get sick and makes it easier for you) and a heater at about 76-80F as they are tropical fish and can get sick and are lethergic without one.

A bowl is basically a big no-no. Though I did notice you had some nice plants in there for him ;)

Do a full jar water change. Add “Fungus Eliminator” by Jungle (Or something similar). These are crystals are dosage should be about 30-40 grains per 1/2 gal. Water should have a nice gold color, not too dark. Do not overmedicate! Change water every third day and add a new dose of same medication. Continue until all fungus has disappeared. Then switch to BettaZing (8 drops per gallon) to clean any other bacteria/fungus that may still be present.

for very stubborn or very fast invasive fungus use: Triple Sulfa AND Bettazing TOGETHER, both at full dosage. Not very many fungus can survive this powerful duo!

    Good luck!
