I don't know much about computers and today I found a hidden file on mine called "history" it has weird coded writing and looks like a strange coded message. It was called an xsl stylesheet. Could this be my bf reading my messenger chats?

  1. No it isn't someone "spying" on you.

  2. dude you are freakin paranoid!!

  3. no, thats just the history of the browser, every browser has it (so you can search something you forgot, or somethin lol). the xml is a file format that stores information in an efficient way, to clear the history just got to internet options.

  4. I doubt it, its more likely that you tried to open up a file that your computer is unable to translate to text, therefore bringing up lots of random characters etc.

Computers leave a lot of "history" files now and again, some for example, save things like website information etc, it's nothing out of the ordinary

If you are worried your boyfriend is reading your messages though - uou can see if you're boyfriend is saving a messenger history chat by heading to My Documents > My Recieved files. Look through the folders to see if there are any XML files, with contact names as the title. If messenger is logging chats, you should be able to open the files and read your chat history. It is a feature that you can turn off in msn messenger by heading to Tools > Options > Messages > and ensuring that the tickboxes for "automatically keep a history of my conversations" is unchecked and left unchecked.

Other than that, if he does know a fair bit more about computers, and is really trying to read what you are typing, he could have set up a keylogger on your PC, that records anything you type on your keyboard. But It's unlikely

  5. history is just your windows machine tracking where you went.

if it is an xls stylesheet, it is an excel document.

no one is reading your chats

    just delete it

  6. The file is probably a history file created by your browser or messenger. Unless your friend is computer savy and has access to your account on your computer, probably not.

  7. Nah, if it's in a weird coded message, it's probably machine code that gets created when a program runs.  The history file may be from your Internet browser because your browser keeps track of places you've been.  To quickly erase that, just hit (in Firefox) Tools and Clear Private Data.  In Internet Explorer just hit tools, internet options, and clear history.
