  1. This is a funny question. Is my blood Type expensive? the answer is check the clearance rack to find it cheaper, hahahaha maybe you don't think it's funny but I wish you could see me falling out my chair right now.

  2. Actually Barb, JK a and b are antigens that you might have on your red cells.  They are the Kidd antigen/antibody family.  My suggestion to you if you feel like you won't be able to find compatible bood when you need it..is go the the local blood bank and have them freeze a few units of your own blood.  Frozen blood is good for 10 years, so it wouldn't be a bad investment if you ever needed it.  It might be a little expensive, but I would rather pay a little than be without!  Don't worry, insurance companies cannot discriminate different or rare blood types.

  3. First, it is AB- (read A-B negative).  The blood type is rare but they do a test before you need blood, say after an accident, and the blood bank will have it.  They may keep you on a list though and call you when they run low so you can donate (if you are able to).  You don't "buy" blood...well, not exactly...the hospital will of course charge you for it if you need a transfusion.
