Question:

Is my brand new gas dryer supposed to smell funny the first time I use it?

I just got it 45 minutes ago, it smells funny in my hallway, my landlord put it in, but I washed a load and put it in the dryer and it has a weird smell......is this normal?

  1. Yea. It even says in the pamphlet that comes with the dryer, the first few uses you might smell an odor.  


  2. We had this happen when we first got our dryer.  It sort of smelled like burning kerosene.  It turned out that the exhaust wasn't connected right and the gas was coming back into the room and the dryer.  It might be worth having him check the connections.  Or, like previous poster said, it might just be the newness of the parts you smell.

  3. You will find that a lot of new things smell when used for the first time, maybe even the second time, why i think it is because its the "newest" burns off, that may sound strange but that is what i was always told, and it make sense to me.
