My brother is always trying to get dirt on me by video taping me with his camera. I heared that by law, you cant video tape someone if they dont want to be taped. Is it true? If so, why can cameras in stores record you? and the police during an interrogation?

I live in Florida.

  1. stores are video taping their property and you are inside their property so they have the right. if you were in public and someone taped you then you have the right to charge thats why you see peoples faces blurred out on tv. Unless your bro is taping you naked or in the shower or toilet or changing clothes, then i think he is "allowed" to do it since you guys are under the same roof.

  2. There are laws against someone video taping you without your permission and using the tape for personal gain. Store cameras and police videos do not fall into that category.

Your brother taping you? That's an issue that you and your parents have to work out.

  3. I suggest you inflict physical harm on your brother =]

Noooo not really ! I'm pretty sure the media needs permission, or maybe that depends on the situation i.e. a person facing court may demand their face not be shown and the media or general public have to abide by that. In stores, they're preventing theft and its their private property so they're(store owners) are guaranteed by legislation to have the right to use surveillance. Police use it to record time, date so its all legitttt and also they use it to analyse the suspect's character etc. to suss out their guilt. Like they can't just say, oh he's nervous - yuppp he killed his wife - but they can see he has for instance, an eye twitch or something that a witness described.

As for your brother, seriously speak to your parents if he doesn't listen to your request for him to stop. Ask them to threaten him with confiscated his camera. How old are you? Do you live at home still with your brother?

  4. It depends on where you are.  If there is no expectation of privacy, such as walk down the street, then you can be filmed, but no audio.  If you live with your brother, get your parents involved.  BTW, stores are private places and can film you if they want.  And not all police forces record you, but they can if they want to.
