Is my brother insured if he drives my car?

He has his own car with his own policy. I have full coverage, and I am wanting to get a hybrid, and I would be happy to let him drive it to save money. Is he insured driving my car, or do I have to add him as a second driver?

  1. As long as he has permissive use, he's covered.  If he's going to have it for a long period of time and not just occasionally, he will need to be added to your policy

  2. As long as he has your permission to be driving the vehicle... your coverage will extend to him if something was to happen to him.

  3. He's OK driving your car on an occasional basis, as long as he is not a regular driver of your car. If he is a regular driver, you would have to add him to your own policy. It sounds to me from your question, that he would driving regularly, like every day.

  4. He will be insured but be careful, as the owner of the vehicle you are ultimately responsible for any legal issues that may result in the event your brother causes an accident. Only you can judge if this is a risk you are willing to take, how is his driving record? speeding tickets? accidents?
