ok this morning my step dad found 2 male black kittens where he works which had been dumped off. I found a home for 1 of them where he will be neutered (i refused to give them to anyone who wouldn't neuter them and keep them inside) They are about 7 weeks old...well my cat that is about 1 1/2 seems mad but im not sure...she runs up to them and sniffs them and growls...she does this over and over...I'm keeping them in a very large dog crate with a small litter pan food water a bed and some toys. I work at Petsmart so i will most likely find homes for them. My question is...is my cat mad at me or is she just curious? She doesn't seem to want to hurt them she just growls but no swatting?

  1. NO SHE IS NOT MAD.... BUT SHE IS BEING TERRITORIAL... THAT IS HER HOME... HER OWNER.. AND SHE DOES NOT WANT ANYONE CLOSING IN... IT WILL END SOON AS SHE GET USE TO THE THOUGHT

  2. My cat reacted the same exact way when I brought home a new kitten.  She's probably curious and a bit mad- you're her caretaker and she's had your full undivided attention until now.

Thank you so much for taking on being a responsible foster parent and ensuring these babies get good homes.

My cat eventually warmed up to her new companion and they lived together in harmony for 17 years.  So they do come around eventually.  Just reassure your cat that she's loved.

  3. Of course she's curious, but I doubt if she's mad.  The growling is just letting the kitten know who's boss and letting you know that she thinks this kitten is new and strange and she's not so sure about it.

It is so good of you to help these kittens out and find them good homes.  Good idea keeping the kitten in the big dog crate too.  It's awesome that you are helping them.

  4. i think its a L*****n cat

  5. Your cat is trying to protect you from "intruders".  Use your employee discount and buy some Feliway, a cat calming spray.  Also, unlike what we would expect, spayed females rarely have any interest in "mothering" kittens - it's kind of like they know they are free from that aspect of life, and have no intention of becoming a "mommy"

  6. the best thing to do is just leave them ,and the cat will get used to it ,your cat is definitely not mad at you  he's just being a cat.

  7. If your cat were a male and the kittens are males, he probably would feel like the kittens are in his territory. Some cats are very territorial like this.

But since she's female I'm going to say that some cats just don't like other cats in their home.

She isn't mad at you, just wants the kittens out of there!

  8. she's being both. My four cats are behaving like this while I am raising 4 orphaned kitties. They don't like the invasion but are curious too.

  9. Cats are very territorial. She probably thinks the new kittens are going to steal your affection away from her. As soon as they leave, she will go back to normal.
