My cat has been deficating outside the litter box everywhere in the house every night for the past two weeks, and she has been doing this on and off for the past year. The stool is sometime solid, sometime liquid, and there is sometimes blood in it. Over the past month she has loss a lot of weight and eating very little, yet she is still very energetic. She is only six years-old. How sick is she ?

  1. Yes, take her to the vet for a checkup. Blood in the stool is NEVER a good sign. Hope you haven't waited too long.

  2. Woah. You HAVE to take her to the vet. This is no time to be asking questions here. TAKE HER TO THE VET!!

    Poor thing

    I hope she gets better.

  3. Toxique,

In some cases deficating outside of the box is a signal that the cat associates the box with pain. Cats are fastidiuous animals and when they are not using their box, there is something the cat is trying to tell their human caretaker.

Since she is losing weight and not eating well, you really need to have your vet examine her and do any tests that are appropriate. Even if all of the folks answering here were veterinarians, it would be irresponsible to hazzard a diagnosis without an examination.

There are many conditions that have symptoms that you describe, ranging from parasites, to Irritable Bowel Disease, all the way to blockages and cancer.

I don't mean to frighten you, but your cat may be quite ill and needs immediate attention. Blood in the stool is always a major red flag that veterinary intervention is needed.

I wish you all the best with your kitty.
