Question:

Is my cat too dependant?

Sometimes when I am watching tv, she'll be sleeping next to me, but as soon as I go use the washroom, she's scratching at the door for me to come out. Also I can't sleep with her in my room, I've been told by others that usually she's sleeping next to my door instead of her own bed.

It's almost like she's scared I am going to leave or something. But I've had her since she was a kitten; and she's never been left alone for more than just a regular work shift. I feel bad, like she's afraid I am going to leave her...

Am I overconcerned? Or can I do something to make her less anxious?

  1. I am yet to find a cat sleep in a designated area. And no your cat is not too dependent but you need to be careful that she is not going to get worse. When you leave to and come back from work, do not give her attention for at least for 5 minutes. It will help her to understand that you will come back always and leaving her is not a bit thing.

You are very lucky to have the cat. She loves you. :-)

  2. ur cat is same like mine.she loves my dad.whenever he goes to toilet da cat pushes the door 4 coming inside.n whenever he works she goes to see that wat is he doing.i think ur cat loves u the most.ur v lucky to get this cat.

  3. You're very lucky to have a cat that loves and trusts you so much!

I recently lost a cat just as "dependent" on me as your cat is on you - trust me, it seems worrying now but you'll miss it when it's gone.  So long as you reassure your cat when you come home and give her plenty of attention if you're late (my cat used to get a bit scatty if I were late), she'll be fine.  I would only worry if it starts to cause unwanted behaviour such as not using the litter tray for her business, etc.

  4. she thinks your her mom and wants to be near you at all times. I have cats that are like this. When you do have to leave for work or anything else, make sure you leave something of yours out for her to lay on and play with. She will be okay.

  5. She loves you, you are her world, love her back and appreciate the love this little animal has for you. She'll be your friend for life.
