Is my cat trying to suck my nipple?

Question

when i'm in my pajamas in bed and my cat is sleeping with me (it does a lot) sometimes it will nibble on one of my buttons. at first i thought it was just playing with it, but then after a while i noticed it just sits there and slowly does that, not really attacking it or anything. do you think it's trying to suck on my nipple as if i'm it's mother? it is pretty close to me.

it's 4 years old btw

haha mine does that too!once when i was gettin dressed sitting down she licked my actual nipple!i was FREAKED LOL!!!!

yeah shes just comfortuing herself, means shes relaxed and happy :)

It's possible....my cat would put himself to sleep sucking on my little finger, when I first brought him home.  .  .I never exposed my 'nakedness' whenever he slept with me.....maybe you shouldn't be such an exhibitionist!!!!

Some cats suck on things like a baby sucks on a pacifier.  Siamese cats are especially known for this.

It is unlikely the cat is trying to suck on your nipple.  But some cats will suck on clothing or skin, and more often than not, it will be a cat that was taken away from its mother too soon, like with orphaned or abandoned kittens, and their emotional need for closeness to their mother went unsatisfied.  Sometimes the behavior disappears over time, but often it will persist into adulthood and never go away.

Unless this behavior is distressing to you, try to remember that it is caused by an emotional need from kittenhood that was never or not fully met, and be patient with your cat.  You mentioned that he/she is pretty close to you, so perhaps your cat feels the same comfort, safety and affection that he/she associates emotionally with the lost mother, and that's a good thing.  Your cat is not trying to suckle, but only to have those good feelings that comes with being close to someone he/she trusts like they would their mother.
