Is my child's teacher certified in New Jersey?

How can I find out if my child's teacher is certified to teach in New Jersey? I've searched and searched, no luck. Please help!

  1. You have to go and ask  your school administration. For security purposes, certification information isn't widely available on-line (at least not in Texas). However, do to the No Child Left Behind mandate, I can assure you if your child's teacher is a full time teacher and not just a permanent sub, she or he has either an unconditional certification meaning that they've passed all the certification tests for their area or they have a emergency permit meaning they're information is still be processed (fingerprints are still being processed, certification application is still being processed, etc).


  2. Ask the school.  Here in California, anyone can go online to the State Department of Education website and find out what credential a teacher holds, when it expires, what supplemental authorizations they have, etc...  The only bad thing about it is you may end up with a lot of teachers with the same name listed and it does not show which schools they are employed at or city or anything like that.

  3. If he/she is teaching in a public school, then he/she has to have some sort of New Jersey certification.
