I got my chinchilla about 2 months ago. She's very nice and she let's me hold her all the time. Lately she's been kind of cold. When i feel her ears, they are colder then normal. Around her eyesballs, it is kind of pinkish. She also sheds a lot! Other then that, she's eating normal, drinking normal, and is very active. Thanks!

  1. Chinchillas are known to shed once or twice a year, depending on where you live and how much you handle her. It seems to me that since she likes being held, shedding isn't an abnormality.. Unless she continually scratches and paws at her eyes, I wouldn't worry too much about her them if they are not swollen or extremely pink.

Cold ears are not a problem; they may feel cold to you, but chinchillas can handle and actually like temperatures a bit cooler (around 70 degrees F) than room temperature; their fur is an excellent insulator, even when they are shedding!

Keep in mind that chinchillas are prey animals though, and they'll mask symptoms very well. If the shedding and pinkish tinge near the eyes don't go away within a couple of weeks, take her to the vet.

Hope this helps, good luck! =)

  2. they shouldent shed, im   pretty sure they dont

keep the temp up so ur chinchilla wont freeze xD, they need certain tempatures, if it dosent feel right 2 u for ur chinchilal it probly isnt

the pink around the eyes does not sound good, it COULD be very dangerous, like an infection, or it could b a piece of dust in her eye and is irritating her, id suggest going 2 the vet, u can never be 2 sure

im very glad ur chinchilla lets u hold her alot, thats very good :)

i wish u luck, hope this helped

  3. The chinchillas I've owned over the years have always had cold ears. Shedding is normal, the amount of fur they actually have is amazing and they can loose what seems a lot but actually isn't to them.

Are her eyes swollen or watery at all? It might be worth a quick check up at the vets just be sure but usually the first signs are going off food, drink and being less active.
