Carter has been having these little fits for about two days now.

Someone told be it was because I put him in the ball for too long but I don't think it should be lasting this long!

Please answer whats wrong with him, thankyou!

  1. I'd suggest taking him to the vet. I don't think keeping him in the ball for too long should cause this sort of response, since seizures are often a sign of being overheated and overworked in a chinchilla. There could be something wrong with either his respiratory system or his mouth. Is he eating, drinking, and pooping alright?

  2. It could be his diet that's making him sick. Chins aren't supposed to have fresh veggies as a daily food source. Also, the edible log you have could put him in cardiatic arrest. Those foods just have waaaayyy too much sugar content.

The only thing I can suggest is to take away all treats for a while, and put him on a pellet/hay only diet. This way if it is a food sickness you'll be able to catch it. If not then go to the vet. You don't need to take him unless you think it's serious, because the trip there could stress him out and make it worse.

Although it could really be nothing, i would honestly try the food thing and see if that helps.

  3. The best thing you can do is just take Carter to a vet  that can care for chinnchillas. A lot of PetSmart stores will care for him. Good luck.

  4. AWWWW!!  I am so sorry to hear that he is sick, he is adorable, He looks like my "Stewart"  I have a 7yr old male that looks just like him and a 12 week old female that is white/silver with pink ears, I love them both sooo much!  I really do not know what that could be, it almost sounds like a hairball, I do not even know if they can get one though????  I would just take him to a vet for exotic pets, shop around and find one that you can afford, I wish you well

  5. He looks fine to me in the video..
