I own a 2000 Kia Sportage 4x4 Convertible with a 5 speed manual transmission. I have owned the car for 3 years and only put 15k miles on it. I will admit that I have driven with a pretty heavy foot, quick acceleration. This is my first manual car so I drove it for the first year shifting WAY too soon and nobody bothered to tell me that this was wrong (I was in shifting to 5th at just 45 mph) For quite a few months now.. probably close to a year, I have noticed at low rpm there is a popping metallic sound coming from under the vehicle and as I try to accelerate from a stop, the car jerks forward and back (as if I were tapping the brake) then all at once there is a loud bang from under the car and it takes off with no trouble. Also when I am going along on the highway in 5th gear using cruise control and I come to a hill, the car will suddenly start to slow down, while the rpm's will increase to try and keep up. I notice a strange smell when I get out of the car after any of this occurs

  1. keep driving it until something breaks. then the problem will be obvious. sounds like a half *** answer  lover not a fighter would say. and oh yeah....good luck

  2. get a clutch

  3. dude, i think you just suck at driving stick. sorry to say it. try letting the clutch out slower.

  4. yea you probably slipping the clutch too much off a light or riding the clutch that will cause a burnt clutch smell and evenly will burn it up. go easy on the clutch try in release the clutch faster off a start don't ride the clutch and slowly go

  5. It's definitely in your transmission. Get it looked at.

  6. Sounds like a bad clutch and throw out bearing. Take it to a tranny shop and have it checked.

  7. Sounds like a slipping clutch to me.  Burning friction material (clutches or brakes) is a distinctive smell; there's no mistaking it.
