I own a 2000 Kia Sportage 4x4 Convertible with a 5 speed manual transmission. I have owned the car for 3 years and only put 15k miles on it. I will admit that I have driven with a pretty heavy foot, quick acceleration. This is my first manual car so I drove it for the first year shifting WAY too soon and nobody bothered to tell me that this was wrong (I was in shifting to 5th at just 45 mph) For quite a few months now.. probably close to a year, I have noticed at low rpm there is a popping metallic sound coming from under the vehicle and as I try to accelerate from a stop, the car jerks forward and back (as if I were tapping the brake) then all at once there is a loud bang from under the car and it takes off with no trouble. Also when I am going along on the highway in 5th gear using cruise control and I come to a hill, the car will suddenly start to slow down, while the rpm's will increase to try and keep up. I notice a strange smell when I get out of the car after any of this occurs
